At our YWCA All-Staff Meeting the other day, we put up baby pictures of many of the staff and then everybody had to guess who each baby was in the pictures. It was no small challenge! I even guessed one baby was our Director of Facilities. Unfortunately, Jeff’s picture was not up on the wall but instead I had picked another woman on our staff! Oops. We all laughed a lot during that exercise! Later in the meeting we gave out awards to recognize excellence in the work of many on our staff from janitors, to advocates, to development staff, to counselors. It was a good two hour meeting.
Later, as I reflected on the meeting…a few things came to mind.
Last night, we hosted the second of two nights of Jingle Ball, our annual concert for the YWCA and Becky’s House, our nationally recognized domestic violence housing and service program. STAR 94.1 helped the YWCA start Becky’s House and each year they host a special concert to raise money for our work with women and children. For the last two nights, Jon McLaughlin, Matt Nathanson, Sara Bareilles, and Plain White T's rocked the house at Anthology (www.anthologysd.com), one of the nicest concert venues I have ever enjoyed. Anthology is owned by Howie and Marsha Berkson, two amazingly generous, dedicated, and caring people who helped make Jingle Ball 2008 a raging success in a very tough economy.
