The YWCA Celebrates 100 Years of Service to Women and Families.  Please join us in our year-long celebration honoring the history of empowering women and families in San Diego. 

The YWCA of San Diego County hosts two annual fund-raising events every year, each of which honors women who are making a difference in our community in addition to raising money to support our programs and services.

walk a mile in her shoes

Date: Thursday, October 16, 2008

Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Registration
5:00 pm - 5:30 pm Walk
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm Reception

Location: Downtown San Diego

Overview:
To bring awareness to domestic violence in our community, men will walk in high heels(provided by YWCA) beginning at the South Embarcadero Marine Park and later on ending on a post-walk reception.

The YWCA of San Diego is hosting this unique event to commemorate its 100th year of service to women, children and families, and to call attention to the prevailing domestic violence to women and their children. The event is a very light-hearted approach to a very serious subject and increases awareness of how domestic violence impacts individuals and families.

How to Participate:

• Register and donate $100 (your donation directly supports the YWCA's programs for victims of domestic violence)
• If you cannot donate $100 on your own, ask your friends, colleagues or family
• You can be a virtual walker by contributing $50 or more to sponsor another walker.

tribute to women & industry (TWIN)
In 1980, the YWCA pioneered an excellent program to augment the efforts of companies in recognizing their female employees for outstanding achievements - an effort that introduced the YWCA’s Tribute to Women & Industry (TWIN) to the San Diego community.

Today, the luncheon spotlights women who are honored by their firm’s executives, co-workers, families and friends. Employers receive special recognition for their leadership role in providing advancement opportunities for women in the workplace.

In the past twenty-nine years, TWIN has paid tribute to 2,490 outstanding businesswomen, and has raised almost $2 million to support YWCA programs.

A world of thanks to Joan Waitt, our chefs, our auction donors, our friends, guests and supporters for a spectacular evening at the YWCA's Centennial Gala Event held on May 3 at the beautiful ocean view estate of Joan Waitt. Everyone had a great time and we raised more than $225,000 to benefit women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Thank you to our table captains, sponsors and friends for a very successful In the Company of Women luncheon fundraiser on March 11, 2008.  With the help of 1200 supporters, our preliminary results show that we raised $250,000.
