Avon Foundation Funds New Partnership with My Child's Rainforest

The Avon Foundation provided $10,000 this month to begin a new art project for women and children at Becky's House and the YWCA with My Child's Rainforest (www.mychildsrainforest.org). This exciting partnership will fund an eight week art program focused on allowing women and children to create beautiful pieces of art with a butterfly theme while also creating a traveling mosaic to raise awareness about the work of the YWCA in the lives of hurting families. The vision for the project includes using this initial pilot project to demonstrate the power of art in the lives of victims of trauma and abuse in order to seek public and private funding for major public art projects at the YWCA Main Building, the Cortez Hill Family Center, and other public venues around San Diego in the years to come. "This project will produce powerful healing in the lives of the women and children that participate and will lay the groundwork for a much larger vision for the use of the arts at the YWCA in the years to come," said Chief Executive Officer Casey Gwinn.

YWCA Receives $20,000 Grant Award from Las Patronas

A heartfelt thanks to Las Patronas for their recent grant award to the YWCA in the amount of $20,000. The grant award will go towards the purchase of a new 12-passenger van, which will be used to transport clients and children from events and between shelters.

Las Patronas is an all-volunteer philanthropic organization with a long history of giving. Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has donated more than $12 million to more than one thousand charitable institutions in San Diego.
