Volunteerism is crucial to success in many areas of the YWCA's community programs and outreach. We value the volunteers who contribute their time to assist their community and help to maintain the effectiveness of our programs.
We have several programs in need of volunteers. Among them are:
Cortez Hill Family Center: The Family Center is a transitional housing complex that provides homeless children and their parent(s) with food, shelter, legal support, and job assistance. The Children's Coordinators are always in need of volunteers to help the children with their homework, coordinate activities, act as mentors, etc. See positions available.
Becky's House and Emergency Domestic Violence Shelter: These programs need volunteers to help with childcare, tutoring, activity leadership and art therapy. The YWCA requires all emergency shelter volunteers to complete a 40-hour training program, which covers a variety of issues surrounding domestic violence. See positions available.
PASSAGES: PASSAGES provides single homeless women with a safe place to live and the resources to re-establish themselves in the workforce and obtain permanent housing. Volunteers teach specialized classes such as cooking and yoga, act as guest speakers, or provide the women with services like haircuts and manicures.
Please keep in mind that the majority of our volunteer positions require fingerprinting and a TB test.
