Terri Dulaney

2022 TWIN Visionary

Terri Dulaney is an innovative thinker with expertise in many technical areas critically important to the National Intelligence Community. She excels at building and articulating state-of-the-art solutions to technical, complex engineering problems. Terri is the leading expert in applying data analytics, semantics, graph theory, and data modeling to current intelligence problems. She has led her team to develop and deploy cutting-edge World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) technologies that model and predict adversary’s behaviors. She has deployed single point semantic discovery systems across several operational data repositories using Linked Data technologies. Terri actively supports the advancement of automated analytics by deploying graph technologies and inference engines to automate knowledge building across structured content. This directly increases visibility into the identification and activity of adversarial behavior.

Additionally, Terri has provided innovative ways of recommending data and workflow steps to the user, allowing significant efficiency in gathering intelligence information. These technologies have allowed analysts and key decision-makers to capture their knowledge of problems and translate them into machine-readable form — thus, enabling the use of advanced analytics, knowledge transfer, collaboration, and visualization techniques. Through research and experimentation, Terri has developed innovative ways to apply technologies that were created for commercial data analytics (e.g. financial behavior) to a wide array of other hard technical problems. She has been instrumental in shaping demand for these technologies that have firmly established BAE Systems as the industry thought leader in graph analytics, recommenders, analytic and data modeling, and semantic technologies which has given rise to a new product line, Programs of Record, and operational systems.

Nominated By: BAE Systems’ dedication shows in everything we deliver, from electronic systems to cyber operations and intelligence analysis, from combat vehicles to naval weapons, and from ship modernization to vehicle upgrades. We give our customers a critical advantage where it counts.

2022 TWIN Mentor - Dr. Alisha Carpenter - Sharp HealthCare

Director, Clinical Programming
Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital

Alisha Carpenter, PhD

2022 TWIN Mentor

To support its nurses during the pandemic, under the leadership of Dr. Alisha Carpenter, Sharp launched “Stress First Aid.” Stress First Aid is designed to help prevent the long-term, harmful effects of stress and provide resources for self-care as we navigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As new surges of COVID-19 patients slammed hospitals and clinics across San Diego County the winter of 2021, nurses throughout Sharp HealthCare continued to be hailed as heroes. However, it became clear that these heroes were also hurting. “Our teams had been under nonstop stress for almost a year and there wasn’t an end in sight,” says Alisha Carpenter, PhD, director of clinical programming at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. “It was getting harder for front-line workers to mask their fear, fatigue, and frustration.”

In response, Dr. Carpenter and her Sharp Mesa Vista colleagues joined Sharp leaders in launching “Stress First Aid” to help protect Sharp’s team members from the long-term, harmful effects of stress. Stress First Aid (SFA) is a collection of evidence-based resources designed to promote self-care, especially to those in high-risk, high stress occupations such as nursing.

The goals of SFA are to decrease stress and its effects; reduce the stigma often associated with mental health challenges; create a common language for nurses and other care providers to address stress; and recognize the relationship between their own well-being and that of their colleagues, patients, and community. The SFA program includes online support groups centered on grief, loss, anger, depression, and compassion fatigue; an internal webpage dedicated to mental health resources; and a hospital-based Sharp therapist who connects directly with Sharp nurses. “Our expert is there, right alongside the front-line workers, helping them process losses, upsets, and stresses as they occur,” said Dara Schwartz, PsyD, clinical program developer at Sharp Mesa Vista. “It’s a wonderful example of how our teams can support one another.”

Nominated By: Sharp HealthCare is San Diego’s leading health care system with four acute-care hospitals, three specialty hospitals, three affiliated medical groups, a health plan, and a full spectrum of other facilities and services.

Stephanie Mora

2022 TWIN Humanitarian

Stephanie Mora goes above and beyond to offer help to her colleagues who may have issues and she thinks positively and proactively in each assigned task. She sets a solid example for her fellow women in the office by instilling new and exciting ideas to improve the company.

Unity Ice Academy is a new nonprofit based out of Los Angeles and Stephanie has been the right hand of the CEO since the company’s formation. She often helps the CEO push through challenging moments and uplifts her with a positive outlook. Stephanie has shown time and time again that she is so committed to the company’s mission as she comes up with fantastic ideas to inspire each child in the program — she is committed to seeing a change in our community.

Stephanie leads by example and is the consummate team player, traits we hope to instill in the children that participate in Unity Ice Academy. When the organization brought in a group of children to participate in a “day in the summer” event to illustrate how a summer camp would operate and introduce diverse  children to ice skating, Stephanie was instrumental in handling all the logistics related to this endeavor. She helped secure the ice rink to host the event and helped to negotiate the contract for filming. She marketed the program and helped secure children participants for this one-time, initial model program. Notwithstanding these critical tasks, she ensured that the pizza arrived on time and passed out water and Gatorade as the kids came off the ice. That is who Stephanie is — big or small, she takes pride in everything she does to give back and inspires all people to commit themselves to a noble and essential cause, as she has done with Unity Ice Academy.

Nominated By: Unity Ice Academy, Inc. has a mission to provide access to and coaching in the sport of ice skating for kids in the inner city of Los Angeles that wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it.
